We all know Lauren Conrad as the star of MTV’s “The Hills”, but beyond what we see on the show and in gossip magazines, there seems to be a hard working young woman who perhaps we really don’t know. This young woman has developed her own clothing line, the Lauren Conrad Collection and she is also the spokesperson for mark. (the beauty and fashion boutique brand of Avon), all while starring in her own TV Show.
Lauren sat down with YBI for an exclusive interview so we could get a feel for the Lauren that we DON’T “know”. We asked her about the Lauren Conrad Collection, how she balances everything and what’s next for her in 2009!
YBI: Does the Lauren Conrad Collection reflect your own style?
LC: Yes I like to design clothing that I would also wear myself, and I actually do where it. I am the fit model as well. I found it was easiest to see how the clothing felt when it was on to make modifications.
YBI: What makes your line unique?
LC: I think it reflects the look and feel of girls my age. It isn't too dressy but also isn't just "for the beach". The dresses can be worn with flats for day and dressed up for the evening so it is perfect for girls always on the go.
YBI: What's your biggest Fashion "No No"?
LC: Wearing clothing that doesn't fit or that isn't comfortable. If someone doesn't feel comfortable in an item of clothing it is so obvious. The same goes for fit. Just because you love something doesn't mean it is the right fit for your body. I always say dress for your body type.
YBI: How did you become involved with Avon and Mark?
LC: Mark approached me a few years ago to be the spokesperson for their brand.
When I met with them and heard the message they send to young woman I immediately knew it was the right place for me. Mark really works to inspire girls to be their best, to make their mark on the world. They have also been so great to work with and really take my ideas to heart. They allowed me to collaborate on a necklace we designed called "heave a heart" and 100% of the proceeds go to the m.powerment foundation which helps raise awareness about partner abuse in young women.
YBI: How do you choose which projects you want to be involved with and which ones you should pass on?
LC: A lot has to do with time. If I had more time between the show and the line I would do even more for kids and charities. The projects I do choose to do have to be ones that I feel passionate about.
YBI: You have a lot going on at a young age, what is the key to balancing everything?
LC: I think you have to do as much as you can while you can. My key is rest as well as trying to eat well.
YBI: What's next for Lauren Conrad?
LC: I will continue to design my clothing line which is my first passion and I am also writing a book for Harper Collins which should be out in 2009.
