Well, it’s official….winter is here!! That not only means unpredictable weather, but that also means dull, dry, and undesirable skin conditions. Below are a few tips on how to make sure your skin survives the winter!

Tip #1: Perform your full skin care regimen daily.
• Reason: Your skin is the most important element in applying makeup. Whether you are a makeup amateur or a makeup professional with 30+ years of experience your skin needs to be in great condition in order for people to see the true beauty of your makeup applications.

Every day your beauty regimen should consist of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing your skin in order to promote healthy skin that looks vibrant and dewy.

Cleanser: A daily cleanser will rid your face of makeup, dirt, oil, and the harmful bacteria you are subjected to daily. Additionally, cleansing helps YBI Vol 8: Photo by Elise Donoghuepromote blood circulation which means that even in the winter your skin will have that natural pinkish tint that everyone associates with healthy skin.

Toner: A toner helps eliminate any additional residue left over from the cleanser. It also helps bring the skin back to its natural PH balance. Ultimately, toners help revitalize the skin and promote a glowing youthful complexion.

Moisturizer: No matter what skin type you have everyone benefits from a moisturizer. Moisturizers lock hydration into the skin and promote a dewy complexion. During the winter months free-radicals from the environment try to strip your skin of all moisture; however, with the assistance of a moisturizer your skin will stay hydrated and you will avoid having to deal with chapped skin. Chapped skin is always one factor that can make any makeup application appear unfinished and unattractive.

Tip #2: Exfoliate your skin 2-3 times per week
• Reason: A buildup of dead skin cells can dull your complexion and will often leave your skin dry, flaky, clogged, and/or cause an uneven skin tone. Exfoliating is one of the most important steps in keeping your skin young, vibrant, and smooth.

Tip #3: Treat yourself to an at-home mask treatment once per week
• Reason: By the end of the week you deserve a break! Why not treat yourself to a little relaxation and treat your skin all at the same time. Try a mask specific to your beauty concerns.Whether it be a mask to refine pores, promote hydration, firm skin, diminish fine lines, or even skin tone, everyone can benefit from a small luxury treatment every once in a while. If you do not have any skin care concerns then I always recommend a hydrating mask during the winter. The humectants in these masks will lock in moisture and eliminate skin dehydration.

Tip #4: Splurge on a facial at least once per season
• Reason: As the seasons change so do your skin care needs. During a facial an aesthetician will analyze your current skin condition. From there the aesthetician will thoroughly cleanse, steam, extract (if necessary) any blemishes and/or imperfections, massage (if skin condition allows), mask, tone, and moisturize your skin. At the end of your facial the aesthetician will discuss some product recommendations and give you a regimen that will promote your healthiest skin condition.
