One of the most important seasonal transition tasks that tends to be put off is giving your closet a much needed makeover. In only a few short steps you can turn your closet into a fully functioning/working wardrobe that will do nothing but save you time getting ready in the morning.
STEP ONE: Purge
Go through your closet and separate the items you find into one of four categories - Trash, Donate/Swap, Storage, and Keep.
• TRASH: Place items in this pile that you will take to the dumpster - worn out gym clothes, white tennis shoes that will never be white again, mismatched socks, etc.
• DONATE/SWAP: This pile is for items that no longer fit correctly, accessories you never wear, shoes that were too uncomfortable or clothing that you
haven't worn in over a year. You can either donate these items to a local charity or find a clothing swap in your town. Find one in your area by visiting www.theswapaholics.com.
• STORAGE: Pack up your out of season items into storage bins and place under your bed, in your basement, or hall closet. Remember not to store items that are worn out or don't fit.
• KEEP: If the item is in good condition, in season, and still fits right, it goes here until it is time to move to the next step.
STEP TWO: Organize
After your sorting is complete separate out the items in your KEEP pile into style - dresses, skirts, tanks, denim, blouses, jackets, etc. Then, hang like items together in your for easy access.
STEP THREE: Take Inventory
Take an honest look at your newly organized closet and see what you have and what you might be missing. Do you need a basic black skirt? Are your favorite pair of skinny jeans too worn out that they ended up in your TRASH pile? Were you surprised to notice that you don’t own a basic white button up?
Don't forget to think about the upcoming season and add in a few WOW pieces to freshen up your new wardrobe.
STEP FOUR: Play Dress Up
This is the best part!! Now that you have a working closet - make it work for YOU. Take the time to try on a variety of outfits so that you have some ideas in mind the next time you sleep through your alarm, or have to run out the door to meet a client. Try mix and matching different colors and patterns to challenge yourself to get more out of what you currently have.

STEP FIVE: Rinse & Repeat
Keep in mind that a full closet makeover should be completed twice a year during the two major temperature changes - with some maintenance work in between. For instance, keep a donate/swap bin handy and consistently be adding to them throughout the season.
