SPOTLIGHT: AJ Crimson

Celebrity Makeup Artist and Cosmetics Designer AJ Crimson is known for creating clean yet luxe looks on his clients demonstrating great attention to detail. His client list includes Fergie, Hillary Duff, Terrance Howard and many more.
We caught up with AJ and asked him about how it all started, the best part of his job, skin care recommendations and more.
YBI: When did you know you wanted to become a Makeup Artist?
AJ: I decided that I would seriously pursue makeup the year I moved to LA. I thought I could do well at it. I'm good at taking my thoughts and translating them into tangible visuals! So I thought it would be fun to try.
YBI: What beauty icon has been your biggest influence?
AJ: Pat McGrath. She has a great attitude, super sense of business, and is a creative visionary.
YBI: What has been your best moment thus far in your career? 
AJ: Freedom. I enjoy the fact that I have freedom to create the life I want.
YBI: What's the biggest mistake women make with their makeup?
AJ: The biggest mistake is not taking chances. Its makeup and it washes off. Another mistake is using too many trends at one time. Pick one and go for it! (Click Here to share your opinion on this question!)
YBI: What's your favorite skin care product right now?
AJ: Natura Bisse-The Cure. It's pricey but I slather my skin with it and it looks AMAZING!
YBI: Who is someone you would consider a "dream" client? Someone that you would love to work with.
AJ: I would love to work with Tom Ford, John Galliano, and Leigh Bowery. They are all designers with complete visions. I think it would be an exciting experience to learn and create with them.
YBI: What's a perfect day in your world?
AJ: My day is perfect when I wake up! The perks of the day are getting up at 6am, arriving to the office and completing the bulk of my task list before noon, having a great creative break-thru, and having dinner with good friends. Accomplishing one thing that day I was unsure of. You never know until you try!
YBI: What are the next trends for makeup in 2010?
AJ: It's definitely red lips! You can also expect lipstick to be the return, and bold statements in color!
YBI: What's next for AJ Crimson?
AJ: [Beauty Statements] by ajcrimson is my apothecary in Brooklyn at the Cure Beauty Bar and will soon be online at AJCRIMSON.COM. There you can get all of my favorite products. We will be hosting a special grand opening to customers on February 20th and I encourage everyone to come get special same day discounts and spa services. It should be a pretty amazing day! AJCRIMSON.COM is also growing to become one of the most loved beauty and fashion destinations online. I'll be working hard to keep it fresh and exciting! So far, so good!
