Scott Barnes, painter turned Makeup Artist, has worked with world-renowned photographers and celebrities such as Beyonce and Celine Dion and his work has graced the covers of Harper's Bazaar and Vanity Fair. Yet Barnes' is best known for the signature look he created on Jennifer Lopez. Called "The Glow", it's best described as bronzed skin with pale lips and it started a whole new trend. From there Barnes launched his best-selling beauty product "Body Bling Bronzer", which he has now re-launched. We caught up with Scott Barnes to get the scoop on his new products, the upcoming release of his new book, and to find out what advice he has for other beauty professionals.
YBI: Does being an artist/painter gives you an advantage when doing makeup?
SB: Yes, It absolutely does.
YBI: Who was the first celebrity that you worked with? How did that change your career?
SB: The first celebrity I worked with was Famke Jensen. It brought me to another level in my career.
YBI: When did you decide that it was important to really make a name for yourself in the mainstream media/society?
SB: Once I started creating makeup for clients.
YBI: With the success of your brand, how do you manage to stay true to the craft?
SB: I continued to polish my craft and continued to work on numerous videos, movies, video sets and editorial covers.
YBI: What’s your favorite part of what you do?
SB: Connecting with my clients and creating new looks.
YBI: Tell us about the re-launch of Body Bling- why do makeup artists love to have it in their kit?
SB: It is a must have because it evens out the skin giving it the glow.
