CASE STUDY: THE FREESTYLIST WEIGHTLESS BLOW DRYING SYSTEM
We are bombarded by advertisements and marketing campaigns everywhere we go as consumers. As beauty professionals we read magazines and go to trade shows and are sold on the next best thing to make our lives easier and our jobs more efficient. How do we know what’s real and what’s just a sales pitch? How do we know who to trust? Well most of the time we rely on bigger name brands and industry leaders. However if you look to your peers for their honest opinion and experiences that can be the most legitimate information you will receive. If you ask any of the hair stylists in the hundreds of salons that use the Freestylist weightless blow drying system, you will get a passionate and honest recommendation on how this product has changed their lives. Sound too powerful to be true? Keep reading.
The Aches and Pains of Hair Styling
Carpal tunnel, tendinitis, back pain, neck pain...sounds like the life of a hair stylist. If you could change all of that and live a healthier lifestyle thus being more efficient at your profession, would you? The Freestylist gives the industry a chance to make a huge change in the way you both live your life and do business.
Question and Research Technology
Good intentions alone may sell the item but we need to be asking about results and benefits. So that’s what we did. YBI took a day to visit the corporate headquarters of Freestyle Systems, the creators of the Freestylist. Below we have listed what we discovered about the system and its users.
What is The Freestylist?
The Freestylist is a Support System for your dryer. It’s the world's first and only weightless blow drying system. How is it weightless? It suspends the dryer from the ceiling and is installed to hang at shoulder height; the system supports the weight of the dryer which then feels weightless.
What are some of its benefits?
Health and Medical: The Freestylist reduces strain by eliminating the weight of the dryer.
Efficiency: When sectioning hair, stylists raise the dryer up and the dryer turns off automatically which cuts out time not having to put the dryer down. The dryer’s “on” time is reduced as it automatically shuts off when it’s raised back up to its resting position. Blow-drying time is reduced along with end of the day fatigue.
Business: The crew at Freestyle Systems suggests adding the system will create a cleaner look for your stations by eliminating cords; a more comfortable experience for your client; an “awe” experience to satisfy current clients and bring in new ones; and of course keeping your staff healthy falls into this category as well.
Why SHOULDN’T your salon have this system?
We haven’t figured that out yet. We brought hair stylists in to test out the product, we spoke to people who are currently using it and we read tons of testimonials…everyone had the same positive experience with the system. In fact everyone was enthusiastically passionate about the Freestylist. Every new piece of equipment has a cost attached to it of course but if THAT’s the only thing standing in your way we suggest you give them a call and get a quote because that's making an assumption without any facts. If you think it might be hard to adjust to the system, current Freestylist users say it’s actually a very short adjustment period, as with any new tool.
Adjusting to the Future of Blow Drying
Jaime Colarusso, Hair Stylist from Lily Artist Management tested out the system for us and says don’t fear change. “I personally loved it! It would shorten my blow drys a great deal because I wouldn't have to keep putting the dryer down! I think it would be a very short adjustment period. So worth it.”
Hair Stylist Beau Boncutter from the Kelly Cardenas Salon works with the Freestylist on a daily basis and shared this with YBI: "I can't imagine working without the Freestylist System. It changed the way I do business, I'm not worn out at the end of the day therefore my salon guests always get the same amazing service no matter what time of day they come in."
Here’s what else your peers are saying about the Freestylist:
• “It’s a true medical tool.”
• “Every client that experiences a Freestyle blowout is in awe at how tranquil and enjoyable the experience is as opposed to the old way of doing business with cord tangles and chairs spinning.”
• “The Freestylist is a true medical breakthrough for the salon industry and it has saved my career”
Good Intentions, Good Investment, Good Change
What started as the good intentions of Freestyle Systems CEO/President Blair Hopper has become a necessary tool for many in the beauty industry. What makes a good investment? Efficiency, business-generating tools and technology and a healthy staff and environment- those are probably some good characteristics of a good investment.
Hundreds of salons all over the country already have this system in place, hundreds more are in the process of investing in the systems and hundreds more are thinking about it. Where do you fit in? When trying to save money in an economic recession investing in the Freestylist system may be the best choice you can make. How do you know for sure? Ask your peers, do your research, and don’t fight change. Educate yourself first and always. Change can be good and powerful.
The Freestyle Systems website has lots of great information on their products along with a list of FAQ’s. You can also find a list of blow dryers that are compatible with this system which includes FHI and Paul Mitchell.
