MacA new Mexican-inspired color cosmetics collection from MAC has caused controversy and forced the company to issue an apology. The new line has been developed in collaboration with the fashion brand Rodarte and will include a line of fashion color cosmetics with a Mexican theme.

The line was set to launch in September and included a nail color called "Juarez"- this is where the controversy lies. Juarez is an economically depressed industrial town in the far North of the country. Consumers and women’s rights groups became angry with MAC's decision to use "Juarez" as a product name because the town has recently been linked to rapes, murders and disappearances of local women working in nearby factories.

MAC has issued a public apology to its customers over the "error of judgement" and said they "had no intention to cause offense".

The statement also said that MAC had intended to donate a portion of the proceeds from the MAC Rodarte sales to help those in need in Juarez. Word is now "Juarez" will not launch but the rest of the collection will indeed be in stores this fall.
