Roxanne ValinotiRoxanne Valinoti is an Education Ambassador for CND (Creative Nail Design). We asked her about her personal journey in the beauty business, new & future Trends for Nails and Education Programs at CND.

YBI: How did you get started in this industry?
RV: I have always had a love for beauty. I started having my nails done professionally at the age of 13. My mom did nails for a short time and I would experiment with all of her products. After going to college for a short time and studying accounting, I left to pursue a career in beauty. I went to cosmetology school in 1994 for a license in Nail Specialty. I wanted to learn everything there was to know about nails and there was only one company that stood out among the competition - CND, then Creative Nail Design.

I knew I wanted be apart of their education team and joined the ranks in 1998. For the past 10 years I have traveled the world inspiring and teaching other professionals. In 2001 I became a backstage artist for CND tending to models’ hands and feet for the runway. CND has collaborated with top designers worldwide since then and this season in NY did a record breaking 75 shows.

YBI: What are the new trends in nail color for this season?
RV: Richly pigmented, dark jewel tones - purple, blue, chocolate cherry and even black. Metallic in any of these colors can make a strong statement and add shine and depth. All shades of grey including my favorite Hyde in the Dark, a gunite grey.

YBI: How do you ensure that CND maintains its leadership status among your professional clients?
RV: Consumer Communication and technical Excellence are two core philosophies of CND. Through education we ensure that the nail professional is on top of the latest products, techniques and verbiage so that the consumer knows they are getting the best service for their money. We are constantly innovating new products, techniques and services that set ourselves apart from the competition.

CNDYBI: What kind of education programs do you offer Nail Technicians?
RV: CND offers 6 core classes in UV Gel, Liquid and Powder and Spa Manicure/Pedicure, as well as specialty seminars for veterans that include color blending, rebalancing, and lift prevention. We offer step by step videos on our website as well as instructional DVD's for any level of professional for at home education. CND Road shows are 2 day intensive learning retreats held around the country that inspire and create loyal system users. We also host numerous classes at major beauty trade shows.

YBI: What do you see as the next trend in nail products?
RV: Customization! Woman are looking for gorgeous natural looking nails even if they have to fake it, so I believe the trend is a higher lever of expertise in custom client servicing. Custom design, custom color and custom product recommendations will allow for premium priced servicing that exceeds client satisfaction. Stay tuned for new product innovation from CND in 2009!!
