Baby it’s cold outside…well in some parts of the country it is! It's hard not to get dry skin- my dogs love the cold (that's a picture of my dog Moses happy to be in the cold) but even dogs get dry skin during the winter. I’ve been writing the same beauty tips every winter for the past 10 years, but I have to say they really work.

So we have the dry cold air and then if you crank the heat like I do, washing your hands a lot to avoid cold and flu germs…and maybe add in an extra hot shower on those cold winter mornings and you get DRY skin. So how do we fight that dry skin? First of all, be proactive and start before you notice your skin getting super dry. Second, follow some basic tips that your mama probably told ya.

Winter Beauty Tips:

  • Avoid long hot showers: Sorry, I know it warms you up but all that hot water is going to leave your skin dry and screaming for moisture.
  • Exfoliate: Don’t over-do it, especially if you have very dry or chapped skin but it is a good idea to use a gentle exfoliator  regularly to get rid of those dead skin cells.
  • Pat Dry: When you get out of the shower pat dry your skin with your towel

  • Moisturize: While your skin is still moist, apply your moisturizer or cream after your shower
  • Re-Apply: Apply moisturizer, especially to your hands throughout the day
  • Drink Water: Oh yes, I’m still saying drinking water is a good idea. Stay hydrated and keep your skin hydrated.
  • Put on the Gloves:  Get some moisture enhancing gloves and socks, apply hand cream (or if you’re hands and feet are really dry use a product like Aquaphor) and wear the gloves while you sleep.

*These Beauty Tips are for individuals with mildly dry skin. Always check with your doctor and/or dermatologist before trying a new skincare regimen. If you have a skin condition such as eczema it is best to speak to a doctor about your condition and products you use. Always test out new products on a small area of your skin to test for allergies.
